Floral Flair at The Moor Park Wedding Fair...

Samuel Roberts at The Flower Shop Watford set up shop at Moor Park’s Wedding Fair on Sunday and what a fabulous event it was too!  It was a great chance to connect with couples on their journey to make their day a happy and memorable one! Not to mention how wonderful the flowers and arrangements looked too!  J

For those that didn't attend, I would like to share with you what The Flower Shop team created and displayed at the fair, so if you're sitting comfortably folks, then I shall begin!

So how about this for a table plan!? Colourful, eye catching and practical, a must have for one’s special day! I think it's a stunning, bespoke piece and a perfect way to present one’s table plan but for the purpose of the show, it was a brilliant way to display a variety of button holes, brooches and prices.

Colourful, floral table plan

Now for the close up… did you spot this beautiful boutonniere (button hole for short)?! A lovely David Austin Rose, Echevarea and Rosemary combine to make an extra special button hole perfect for the groom...

Gypsophilia brooch… beaut!

Why not accessorise your flower girls with a charming floral handbag?... an item perfect for that fairy tale wedding!

For your reception, almost anything goes, you want to decorate, wow and show off your personality to create your dream wedding with all of your favourite things. This can be done! For the purpose of the wedding show, The Flower Shop produced two beautiful high arrangements to inspire and show what is possible.

On mass Gypsophilia looks magnificent! For the fair, The Flower Shop Watford designed and created a Gyp ball high arrangement, complete with hanging crystals, glass globes and white Phalaenopsis Orchids. A contemporary floral cloud or a vintage bundle, it certainly is a high arrangement with huge impact!

The second arrangement was a beautiful floral candelabra oozing with elegance and sophistication. A wonderful combination of pastel flowers in the way of white Hydrangea, peach Roses, Viburnum, Phalaenopsis Orchids, Peony’s and Dendrobium Orchids! Perfect!

The base of the candelabra compliments the arrangement brilliantly in the way of an assortment of pots filled with seasonal flowers. Lovely!

The Hyacinth bells shall ring...

In early January, The Flower Shop is all about cleaning up, restocking and redressing windows and displays in preparation for Valentine's and the upcoming year ahead. We see a move away from the reds and gold of Christmas and more of a move towards the likes of white, green, blues and yellow.

It may be cold, wet and murky outside but take a step into The Flower Shop and you’ll notice Spring is making its presence felt! Take a good look at our floral designs, take a deep breath and smell the fresh spring flowers and why not take a bunch of tulips or more with you too! :)

I feel this poem by Ralph W. Emerson sums up the season perfectly! Enjoy!...

FLOWER CHORUS

O such a commotion under the ground,
When March called: "Ho! There! ho!"
Such spreading of rootlets far and wide,
Such whisperings to and fro!
"Are you ready?" the Snowdrop asked,
"'Tis time to start, you know."
"Almost, my dear!" the Scilla replied,
"I'll follow a soon as you go."
The "Ha! ha! ha!" the chorus came
Of laughter sweet and low,
From millions of flowers under the ground,
Yes, millions beginning to grow.

"I'll promise my blossoms, " the Crocus said,
When I hear the blackbird sing."
And straight thereafter the Narcissus cried,
My silver and gold I'll bring."
"And ere they are dulled," another spoke,
"The Hyacinth bells shall ring."
But the violet only Murmured, "I'm here,"
And sweet grew the air of Spring.

O the pretty brave things, thro' the coldest days
Imprisoned in walls of brown,
They never lost heart tho' the blast shrieked loud,
And the sleet and the hail came down;
But patiently each wrought her wonderful dress,
Or fashioned her beautiful crown,
And now they are coming to lighten the world
till shadowed by winter's frown.
And well may they cheerily laugh "Ha! ha!"
In laughter sweet and low,
The millions of flowers under the ground,
Yes, millions beginning to grow.

New Year, New Trends...

According to the Pantone Colour Institute – the international authority on all things colour - the 2014 colour of the year is Radiant Orchid. This colour is set to inspire and influence all creative outlets, in such things like fashion, art and beauty.

It will be interesting to see how this floral based colour will be incorporated into the weddings and events of 2014 so watch this space! J

Taken directly from the Pantone website: ‘An enchanting harmony of fucshia, purple and pink undertones, Radiant Orchid inspires confidence and emanates great joy, love and health’ (http://blog.pantone.com/2013/12/pantone-color-of-the-year-2014-in-the-news/).

Currently I think the ones to keep an eye out for are succulents. Bring the outside in, in the form of a terrarium planted arrangement containing these brilliant plants. They make a wonderful gift or centrepiece and are certainly easy to care for! Succulents add interest to floral table centres and bridal bouquets too!

A particular speciality of The Flower Shop Watford and here are some they made earlier!…

Christmas round up...

Happy New Year one and all and I hope everyone had a fabulous festive season J

Turkey eaten, drinks drunk and presents unwrapped, Christmas has gone for another year but 2014 has arrived with a bang! The Flower Shop are up and running, taking down Christmas decorations, fresh flower deliveries, planting arrangements and a wedding this coming Saturday at The Grove Hotel. But if you don’t mind I would like to share with you our last events of 2013 and quite a few there were too! So if you’re sitting comfortably…

So throughout the festive season we catered Christmas table centres for The Grove Hotel. They required 38 hurricane lamp rings in total for The Grove Joiners parties and for Christmas day dinner. Our design this year comprised of a lantern surrounded by a ring of wonderfully fresh Christmassy foliage, decorated with red and gold baubles, glittered apples, cones and oranges. Contorted willow otherwise known as Salix adds an extra dimension don’t you think!?

On another occasion, a wonderful combination of white Roses and Kiefer arranged on silver bowls look stylish and effective. The Grove had the same last year and loved them so we did a repeat performance this year for a Christmas corporate function. A total of 18 were the order of the day!

For The Grove’s New Year’s Eve party we arranged 33 white Rose domes in black cubes which I think look super smart and rather effective against the black table cloths! :)

Alongside the Christmas festivities we catered for a number of other occasions. The first being a Golden wedding party in the Donneraile room at The Grove. The brief was to be yellow, striking and bold. I certainly think we ticked these boxes!

In the same room but on a different day, we catered for a birthday lunch. Three glass cube arrangements sit wonderfully amongst a selection of pots hosting seasonal flowers. The likes of Anemones, Roses, Freesia and Clematis are pretty and elegant and compliment the cubes perfectly.

Are you still with me folks?!...Next up, we had 2 lovely weddings to prepare for in the run up to Christmas. One being at The Grove comprising of pretty pink Hydrangeas and grass arranged in fishbowls. Simple, effective and blossom like!

Next up came a beautiful wedding at St Michaels Manor in St Albans (http://www.stmichaelsmanor.com/), a lovely location and even lovelier flowers! A collection of pots containing seasonal flowers acted as a runner along the top table. Wonderful! Alongside this, hurricane lamp table centres were required and truly beautiful they were too! In pastel shades, tones of lilac, dusty pink and white, they are filled to the brim with loveliness. A hint of spring with the inclusion of Hyacinths and Ranuculus, together with Cymbidium Orchids, Roses and Dille make for a romantic and lush arrangement.

Our bride’s bouquet was in keeping with her table centres but this time including mini Phalaenopsis Orchids! Stunning!

Last but not least we had a pretty and pink private party at St James Restaurant, Bushey one evening. Arranged in a glass cube, a combination of Sweet Avalanche Roses, Spray Roses, Hydrangea’s, Eustoma and Cymbidium Orchids make for lush arrangement fit for a fine feast!

Now looking forward to 2014...
