Tis the season to get married...

The shop is a hive of activity at the moment and the summer flowers and plants available are truly wonderful even if the weather isn't!  Whether one wants them for a vase on the kitchen table, in a gift wrapped bouquet or fresh flower arrangement we can cater to any request. Just ask :)

The Flower Shop had two fabulous weddings this week, the requirements were almost totally different but equally brilliant. Our first wedding of the week was Sunday, located at the bride’s house in Edgware. We prepared as much as we possibly could on the Saturday but the rest was arranged and finalised on site Sunday morning.

Our customer required 4 beautiful white pedestals; the brides shower bouquet and the Chuppah. For those that don’t know, a Chuppah is a canopy under which a Jewish couple stand during their wedding ceremony. From a florists perspective, it can be decorated in many different ways and in this instance; the requirements were to include white dendrobium orchids, white roses and gypsophila to create a fluffy, magical arrangement.

In all its glory, I think this Chuppah is truly stunning!...

We created beautiful floral gardens at the base of the Chuppah to complete the look! A gorgeous combination of dendrobium orchids, eucalyptus, stock and lysimachia to compliment both the Chuppah and the pedestal arrangements.

Our second wedding this week was at a beautiful venue, Botley Mansions, near Chertsy in Surrey.

Our bride was brilliant, she knew exactly what she wanted in the sense the she wanted bright, bold colours and LOTS of gerberas in the table arrangements and bridal flowers in contrast to pastel shades in the ceremony room. We included wonderful, red and yellow roses, sunflowers, blooms, alchemilla mollis, thlaspi, cerise gerberas and purple germini in both the high and low table arrangements. Take a look....

I think the bride was right to go bright and bold in this room; they truly stand out and match the chair ties! Wonderful! :)

1 bridal shower bouquet, 7 bridesmaid posies to match and 1 Buzz Lightyear waiting in the wings!!

The ceremony room required 2 pedestal arrangements and the Chuppah. We put the Chuppah structure up from scratch on site and then decorated and attached the floral arrangements and ruscus garland. Beautiful summer flowers were included in the Chuppah, the likes of hydrangea, white roses, astilbe, white peonies, delphinium, pale pink campanula bells and germini. Brilliant!

For now, enjoy the weekend and thanks for visiting our blog so far,

Holly and The Flower Shop team :)

Another day, another function...

Hello all! Just a quick post for today to keep you all up to date on the goings on behind the scenes at The Flower Shop.

We had a private function at a customer’s house, the occasion of an 80th birthday dinner. What do you think of these bold, bright colours?! They’re my favourite at the minute! So striking! A brilliant mix of orange roses, red peonies, cerise pink ranunculus, asclepias, alchemilla mollis and fabulous vanda orchids arranged in glass cubes.

Beautiful delphiniums for the kitchen and a beautiful glass urn arrangement were required for the lounge. The specification was white and blue flowers so we included white cymbidium orchids, white lisianthus, brilliant blue agapanthus, clematis and a lovely blue hydrangea which we cut down into florets and dotted around the arrangement.

Lots of events, weddings and gift work coming up in the pipeline so hold onto your hats folks!! :)

Over and out for now,

Holly

Hitting the ground running...

WOW!!... 9 events last week!  So grab a cuppa a read on :)

Alongside usual shop duties and orders, we hit the ground running with 10 lovely sunflower terracotta pot arrangements for The Grove Hotel, Hertfordshire (www.thegrove.co.uk) and a gorgeous summery vase arrangement for the Duke of Gloucester.

Wednesday saw a beautiful, smart, white and green wedding at The Grove which comprised of 2 pedestal arrangements, 5 low dish arrangements and 1 high arrangement specifically for the bride and groom's table. Wonderful summer flowers were included, the likes of peonies, lisianthus (eustoma), roses, cymbidium orchids and alchemilla mollis.

A new day brought 35, yes 35 allium table centres for a corporate function at The Grove Hotel. A combination of exotic leaves and alliums make for stunning and impressive high and low table arrangements. Take a look!

Friday required us to decorate a customer’s house for a private function. In the Jewish community an Aufruf is the ceremony held on the Shabbat before the wedding so we designed these wonderful white washed terracotta pots filled with summery, country looking flowers to decorate the tables. A divine mix of stocks, sweet peas, alchemilla mollis and fever few (Tanacetum parthenium) creates a wonderfully scented mix.

How about this “hedgerow?!”… MAGNIFICENT!

Not only this, we achieved 8 gorgeous table centres for another corporate event at The Grove Hotel.

                                                                 Summer in a bowl!!

It’s wedding season! Saturday saw a stunning summer pastels wedding! The bride required a beautiful bridal posie made up of mostly lilac roses accompanied with white freesia and a couple of white roses to boot, plus 21 button holes! Here are the wonderful table centres we created……A mixture of peonies, hydrangea, cymbidium orchids, sweet peas and peach avalanche roses.

The week didn't end there!... For Sunday we had a lovely birthday lunch at St James’ Restaurant in Bushey where we prepared 11 terracotta pot arrangements to which the customer requested yellow and white flowers. Yellow roses and white agapanthus were a must!!

...And breathe…what a week! Summer flowers are truly wonderful, a riot of colour, fragrances and interest, I hope you like the update.

Until next time,

Holly :)

Flowers are for all occasions…

Hello! A florist encounters and caters to all human emotions and occasions, from births, marriages and deaths. Sadly some of our recent works have focused on floral funeral tributes but we would like to share them with you.

A funeral can be a difficult and upsetting time and choosing flowers for a loved and lost one can almost be overwhelming. There are many styles to choose from, from the more traditional oasis spray which is deemed the most natural way to display the flowers or alternatively a personalised, custom made tribute which can be achieved ‘with an idea from the family and flowers and imagination supplied by us.’ We try to accommodate any request whether it be a particular colour scheme, the inclusion of a specific flower or a bespoke tribute to suit preference as well as bringing comfort to the bereaved.

Here are a few examples of funeral tributes that The Flower Shop team at both the Bushey and Watford Shops have achieved. Our websites also show a great selection of tributes http://www.theflowershop.uk.net/ http://www.watfordflowers.co.uk/

As stated on The Flower Shop website, designs such as these need at least two working days’ notice and the order to be placed in person or by phone. Prices vary considerably.

Until next time, enjoy the sunshine and hope to see you in store,

Holly :)

Lots going on...

So there’s been lots going on over the last week and The Flower Shop team have been busy bees both in the shop and behind the scenes. Here's just a snippet of what's been happening...

Our tied bouquets are very popular gifts and can be pre-ordered or made in store while you wait! Bright, pastel, clashy, seasonal, lilies, no lilies, … what every you desire, we can make it! In true Blue Peter style, “here’s one we made earlier”… specifically catered to include red roses and sunflowers.

Or how about this silk hydrangea order? Our customer brought in this HUGE vase and at first had fresh flowers, including Green Goddess arum lilies (Zantedeschia aethiopica), purple hydrangeas and delphiniums to name but a few but now requires something more permanent. We thought these silk hydrangeas were ideal!

Watch this space and keep your eyes peeled for our latest news :)

Over and out for now,

Holly :)

So where do we source our flowers from?

Well, we receive delivery from Holland 4 times a week plus regular visits to New Covent Garden Market for a vast array of English grown flowers and foliage. We always have a wonderful selection of flowers, ever changing with the seasons! Come in a take a look! :)

Our most recent delivery from Holland saw some of these beauties... Delphinium Blue Bee, Hydrangeas and Antirrhinums which are more commonly known as 'snapdragons!'

Next step, onto our flower show ready for use!...

WONDERFUL!

Until next time,

Holly :)
